Secret Obsession
Hi There,
Sorry I was MIA last week, I had finals at school, but I’m back now and ready to talk about my favorite things!
I wanted to share a secret about myself with you today. No one knows this about me, except for you. Some girls love shoes and have closets full of them. Some have handbags/purses/pocketbooks for every single occasion imaginable. Although I do love shoes and purses, I adore something else so much more. I am in love so hard with sconces and lamps. You might laugh but I seriously have a problem. Like 80-90% of the time when I walk into a store that has lighting I find something I have to take home. I’m getting limited on space though, so sometimes, I’ll buy a pair of lamps that I fell in love with at the store only to have to take them back again a few days later. I’m instantly smitten with all different kinds of lamps, it doesn’t matter the style or the decade they are from. They add that extra glitter to a room and instantly provide a cozy little reading nook to escape with your book boyfriend or dream of beautiful houses and places.
Here are a few of the sconces I have, it’s an addiction, and I admit I have a problem, but I don’t know if I want help.
In the extra bedroom…
In my bedroom…
I got both of the sconces above from Home Depot when I was first starting on my lamp love affair. I might switch them out for ones that I like better at some point. But, don’t overlook the Home Depot when it comes to lighting. They are starting to stock some cute and fashionable options, for pretty great prices. I think the ones above were $40 a piece. They come with directions, and all the hardware you need (except the screwdriver). You just put them together and screw them into the wall.
In the kitchen…
Those are my favorites. Ugh, I die. I got them from Restoration Hardware a while ago at a 30% off sale. They seem to be having sales quite frequently now. I love so many of their sconces. I don’t know where I would put them though. I don’t want my house to feel like a lighting store. Well, that would be kind of cool actually.
I’ve had my eye on this one for a while now. I know all the bloggers and designers have been using these recently but I can’t help myself. I’m swimming with the crowd on this one.
I got a pair of vintage lamps at a consignment store a couple months ago. They don’t really go with the rest of my decor, but I had to have them as soon as I saw them. They need some work, new shades and a little polish. But they are beautiful to me. (They are not going to live where I put them in these pictures, but the light was good in this room when I was snapping their closeups.)
I have an ultra modern, mirrored one in the office…
Wouldn’t that one look amazing with a geode finial like these?
My new found lighting love is picture lighting, like this. I don’t have any yet, but I dream of them. Obviously, I would hang it above a picture that’s a bit more “me” than a vintage pic of a men’s sporting team.
People hang them over bookshelves, in closets, and even above bathroom vanities. Kate from Centsational Girl did a pretty extensive Ikea hack with a couple of Billy bookcases and some picture lights.
I could go on and on, but now it’s your turn. I doubt you are as obsessed with lighting as I am, so now tell me what your obsession is!
