The kitchen nook got a little makeover for Christmas this year.

It’s really nice to have a festive spot to relax while you’re waiting for something to finish cooking. The garland is just resting on the curtain rods (the rods are pretty beefy). It’s the plain pre-lit garland from Costco (it comes with some pine cones attached to it as well).

Then I just added ornaments and sugared fruit picks. My sister and I used to make fun of picks when we were little kids. I think we thought the name was funny. Christmastime was a flurry activity in a family full of decorators, and everyone was always saying they needed a few “nice picks” for here or there. For some reason, it was hilarious to us. (The cupcakes are from this bakery by the way.)

I first saw these plates a couple of years ago when I was shopping at Macy’s (here’s the link to the set). They are so outside of my normal style, but also adorable and festive. When I lifted a plate up to look at the price tag, my eyes popped out of my head, so I just sighed and kept walking. Then last week I saw them at Home Goods for less than half of the Macy’s price! I almost screamed and immediately ran to them, attempting to create a defensive shield with my body while putting them into my cart. You should have seen how people were looking at me.

I got the plates though… 😉

The little tree is also from Home Goods. The cute boxes are a yearly Christmas gift from one of my Aunts. She gives my sister and I ornaments and festive boxes to store them in as Christmas presents every year. Thoughtful and beautiful.

Here it is with the lights on.

Now, off to whip up a baking storm and make a huge mess.

I hope you have a lovely and warm Christmas and holiday season.
